Sunflowers for our neighbors

Updated: Jul 21, 2021

After a few months of putting out seeds to feed the wild birds flying along the south fork of Beargrass Creek, Jody and Mariah noticed sunflower sprouts all over their yard. They took to the Nextdoor app and offered to share the sunflowers with our neighbors around Smoketown, Shelby Park, Germantown, Deer Park, Old Louisville and Schnitzelburg!

It's important to stay connected with our communities, and with all of this unexpected downtime, we can make a big difference for the plants, people, and wildlife in our areas.

Beargrass Thunder chose the sunflower as an icon for 'Isolation Vacation' for many different reasons. We feel that it represents hope, and that we will get through these uncertain times together and emerge stronger and more unified than before.

The sunflower is one of the best plants you can have - it provides an abundance of seeds for birds and wildlife to eat, as well as cleansing and detoxifying the soil around them, allowing for more plants to grow.

Stay tuned for a more in-depth video about the positive effects of sunflowers on the local ecosystem, and how to best plant them on your property.

Stay strong, and don't be afraid to reach out to your community and ask for help. Do your part when and where you can, and we will get through this together. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, ideas, or need anything at all. #TeamKentucky #TeamKY #HealthyAtHome #patriot
